Warren Buffett is not just one of the richest human beings in the world. He is a fuddlinionaire. He has loads and loads of money. 50 billion dollars is a lot of money.
He is however not your typical mega-rich bloke. He lives in a modest house and goes about doing the things the way any of us would do them, in spite of being able to buy a couple of countries.
Writing for the New York Times, Buffet said,
While the poor and middle class fight for us in Afghanistan, and while most Americans struggle to make ends meet, we mega-rich continue to get our extraordinary tax breaks.
These and other blessings are showered upon us by legislators in Washington who feel compelled to protect us, much as if we were spotted owls or some other endangered species. It’s nice to have friends in high places.
The Sage of Omaha, as Buffett is known, is a fierce critic of the US tax system. He said last year he handed over 17.4% of his earnings in income tax, way lower than what the average American pays.
He said if the billionaire-friendly Congress could take time out to get people like him out of the coddled-up position they found themselves him in, the ‘shared sacrifice’ would result in helping America get out of the debt-crisis it finds itself in.
