Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko’s shop was looted in a spate of riots in Harare.
A vehicle belonging to the state broadcaster ZBC and three others owned by the Zimbabwe republic police were also set on fire during the disturbances spread in the CBD.
Shops closed initially on Harare’s First Street before the melee spread to surrounding areas all the way down to Town House where the ZBC vehicle was torched.
The march had carried on earlier and seemed peaceful until it got near one of VP Mphoko’s Choppies outlets. Some protesters started throwing stones before a hoard of them entered the shop to loot.
At the time of this post, social media was awash with warnings to avoid hot spots in the CBD with some people reportedly locking themselves up in buildings. While it was busy in specific most of Harare particularly from Samora Machel Ave going north was quiet.
Stay indoors if you were planning to go anywhere between Sam Nujoma & Takawira between N Mandela and J.Moyo
