Vendor Eviction Deferred

Zimbabwe’s authorities have given themselves until 17th of June to be ready to get rid of vendors in urban centres.

The evictions were supposed to take place this Monday, 8th of June but authorities probably realised that given the volume of vendors and the work it would take for this not to turn into an all-out war, it would be best not to stir the hornet’s nest at this time.

Minister of Small to Medium Enterprises and Cooperative Development, Cde Sithembiso Nyoni, according to ZBC said there was need to make a smooth transition to designated sites.

For Harare there was announcement of 14 sites where vending will be permitted and there is also to be a cleanup campaign which will involve vendors.

A small to medium enterprises fund was also announced.

Sanity needed to prevail. This whole idea of vendors in running battles with soldiers and police was pretty daft.
