The United Kingdom has announced the next Ambassador to Zimbabwe.

Peter Vowles will take over from Melanie Robinson, who leaves after four years in the country.

“Mr Vowles will take up his appointment in September 2023,” said a statement by the UK Foreign Office.

He is currently the Transformation Director in the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

Other positions Vowles has held are Head of Mission for the UK Embassy in Myanmar, the Director Asia, Caribbean and Overseas Territories (FCDO) among others.

In Africa, he was the Country Director for the Department for International Development (DFID), in Deputy DFID Country Director in Kinshasa.

It is however not his first association with Zimbabwe.

He was a teacher in the country in 1992/93 and was Policy and Programme Manager, Students Partnership Worldwide there too from 1996 to 1999.
