Specialists withdraw services as doctors’ strike continues

Specialists in Zimbabwe say they cannot continue to carry on their duties while junior doctors are on strike they have said.

In a circular sent out they said:

We tried to continue working but the demands are so exhausting such that we fear we may end up making fatal errors resulting in unwanted maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality.

The obstetricians and gynaecologists say they will be happy to continue working again once ‘the impasses is resolved’.

The Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors’ Association called for a strike over poor remuneration, job insecurity and what they called piecemeal measures to deal with their plight.

The strike commenced on 15 February 2017 with Health and Child Care minister Dr David Parirenyatwa threatening to fire all doctors on strike.
