SA Electoral Court says Zuma can run as MK candidate

The South African Electoral Court has said former President Jacob Zuma’s name can remain as a candidate for the uMkhonto we Sizwe Party (MK) when the nation goes for elections next month.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) had released the list of candidates as per law, and asked for objections.

One was received against Zuma following his 202 incarceration at the Estcourt prison in KwaZulu-Natal for defying the Constitutional Court.

Now, the court has said the former president should be able to run on the MK ticket, paving the way for a possible return to parliament when South Africans vote on 29 May.

Adv Dali Mpofu argued on behalf of Zuma, while the IEC was represented by Adv Thembinkosi Ngcukaitobi.
