Ramaphosa to address SA on state capture commission recommendations

Cyril Ramaphosa and Jacob Zuma

South Africa president Cyril Ramaphosa will on Sunday evening address his country at 19h30 on Sunday, 23 October 2022.

“The President will utilise the address to outline to the nation steps government is taking to implement the recommendations of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of State Capture, Corruption and Fraud in the Public Sector, including Organs of State,” his office said.

SABC will carry a live feed, along with the Presidency’s platform.

The Commission was set up during the presidency of Jacob Zuma to investigate allegations of the above.

Zuma on Saturday held an hours-long press conference in which he attacked the Commission, its head Chief Justice Raymond Zonda and accused Ramaphosa of treason as well as corruption.

It is possible that Zuma’s presser was a pre-emptive strike to sully the reputation of the report’s recommendations.

It could also be that Ramaphosa may be reacting to Zuma’s visceral attacks.

Either way, if the gloves were still on, it is barely so.
