Prominent journalist and gender advocate Abigail Gamanya has died.

She passed away at Dandaro on Monday. According to NewsHawks, she had been suffering from pneumonia.

Gamanya was National Director for Gender and Media Connect, with the organsation saying in a post on Twitter, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing on of our National Director, Rumbidzai Abigail Gamanya yesterday.

“Our hearts are shattered as we did not only lose a great leader and strategic thinker, but a mentor of life and skills,” it added.

She leaves a legacy of being one of very few media professionals who was committed to issues of media and gender equality training and development through strengthening the capacity of both men and women professionals.

Gamanya had been in the leadership of various media bodies in Zimbabwe including Media Alliance of Zimbabwe (MAZ).

For the last five years Abigail has been the Zimbabwe National Coordinator of International Training Programme (ITP) on media development, sponsored by the Swedish International Development Agency.

With 3-mob.com, she had assisted greatly in developing greater gender sensitivity and inclusiveness in our content development and reporting.

We will miss her telling contributions.
