Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa says he is very impressed by citizens’ response to the lockdown over Covid-19 but said that there was a possibility the period might be extended.
Responding to reporters after taking a tour of high-density areas Mnangagwa said he was not going to drawn into a definite position on it all.
I wouldn’t want to pre judge our decision at the end of 21 days. We are going to review the situation. If we think it is containable we will go back because it[the lockdown] has economic impact and social impact. So we have way the possibilities of relaxing or continuing at the end of 21 days. We wouldn’t want to pre judge but what I can say currently is that I am happy with the response of the people.
Zimbabwe is one of 14 countries on the continent which have imposed nationwide lockdowns. There are nine confirmed cases with one death.
