The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) say they arrested 41 members of three organisations, on allegations they had engaged in tabulation with the aim of aiding Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa releasing results for the Harmonised Elections on Thursday.

The three organisations are Zimbabwe Electoral Support Network (ZESN), Election Resource Centre (ERC) and Team Pachedu.

Their lawyers say they have been charged with section 66 of the Electoral Act, which criminalises purported publication of results prior to official announcement. Only the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is allowed to announce official results.

The detainees are represented by the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.

The ZRP says its crack team received a tip-off and raided at Holiday Inn Hotel, Harare, Number 44
Downie Avenue, Belgravia, number 27 Milton Park. Harare and number 501, The Grange, Harare.

A total of 93 smart cellphones, 38 laptops, two (2) smart watches, two (2) modems, one (1) WIFI router, one (1) external hard drive, Nokia feature phone (kambudzi), one (1) printer, 1 X 24 port switch, various computer chargers, power back-up unit and headphones were recovered.

The names of the arrested are as below:

Zimbabwe’s election looks to be tight as results have started trickling in.

With the chaos of election day, it is nailed-on expected to be another disputed election, if Zanu-PF’s Emmerson Mnangagwa retains the presidency.

Chamisa however says he has won the election emphatically, and has been posting X to that effect.
