This weekend Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai was pressed into admitting that he had a son, Ethan with A bulawayo woman, Loretha Nyathi.
This is after last week’s revelation by New Zimbabwe that the PM was paying for maintenance of the child but was neglecting the child. It was even said that he had not gotten involved in getting the child a birth certificate. In essence beyond the payment of maintenance he is doing nothing else.
PM Tsvangirai has asked for people to respect his privacy but when a public official is seen behaving in a a way that is not befitting of their station the people do find those indiscretions disconcerting. If a man cannot be bothered to take an avid interest in his own blood then what chances do we have if his eye can be turned so easily.
To show how disconnected he is from Ethan he called the child, ‘it’ and not him.
This story could have gone away easily had she not gone to court in the first place. Now everyone is going to be watching the development of that child like a hawk. If anything happens to that child, it will be on him.
Yes, the prime minister has a right to a private life. He needs to do a better job at keeping it so.
