South African paralympian Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to five years in jail for culpable homicide.
A further three years for the Tasha shooting was suspended for for five years. The two sentences will run concurrently. Also he will not be fit to possess a firearm.
Pistorius was found guilty of shooting and killing his girlfriend on 14 February 2014.
Both sides have 14 days to seek leave to appeal the sentence. No indication was given by either side of an intention to do so. The national prosecuting Authority says it will consider whether it can appeal based on points of law.
Pistorius will serve an effective 10 months and if he behaves, house arrest will be considered.
#OscarTrial Pistorius must serve at least 1/6 of his sentence before house arrest considered – that is just over ten months
