Zimbabwe’s health minister Dr David Parirenyatwa has warned ‘prophets’ against fake cures.
Parirenyatwa was particularly speaking about supposed cures for HIV and the lot. Recently rival religious leaders Walter Magaya and Emmanuel Makandiwa both released ‘anointing oil’ which reportedly cures all sorts of ills including HIV/AIDS. With the prevalence of the scourge being so high in Zimbabwe, this has resulted in loads of people going to the churches.
Parirenyatwa wants legal instruments to be put in place to criminalise such claims. So it could become illegal for people to claim that they cured people. Yep, that includes through prayer and all that.
The question however is that, what if the guy actually cures? We are just playing devil’s advocate here.
But yeah, if people are being conned then let’s protect them.
Is this another watershed moment after former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor Gideon Gono killed the ‘miracle money’ ‘prophets scheme?
