No evidence of terror threat in Sandton – SA government

Cyril Ramaphosa

The South African government has pushed back at the terror threat announcement by their US counterparts.

Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele said, “We are not undermining that alert but the fact is that we don’t have evidence of its existence but we are monitoring that situation because we don’t want to take it for granted. At the moment, we have no business trying to destabilise how South Africans live.”

President Cyril Ramaphosa hit out the US for making the announcement without talking to the SA government.

He called the claims unfounded and said they did talk to the US government after their claims.

That said, the intelligence agencies in SA are continuing with investigations.

The US government issued the warning this week, claiming the attack was set for this weekend.
