Mnangagwa insists he will not serve beyond 2028

Emmerson Mnanagwa on CNN

Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa Emmerson Mnangagwa has said he will not stay beyond his term limit, even as members of his party call for him to do so.

He was speaking to the Zanu PF Youth League at their meeting in Harare.
According to the Presidential Communications Department, one of the resolutions was for him to stay in power.

“One of the major resolutions by all the provinces is that given the great work being done by the President in national development, he should stay on as President of the State and Zanu PF Party until 2030 so he can complete, consolidate and consummate his vision,” it said.

Mnangagwa has declined the invitation.

“In his remarks, the President called upon Zimbabweans to abide by the Constitution. He said he will be guided by the Constitution and will not stay beyond his time,” said the Department.

Zimbabwe has a cap of two terms for the presidency.

Many have been sceptical even after Mnangagwa said before he would not run again in 2028.
