Masowe Members In Running Battles With Each Other, Cops

Members of the Johanne Masowe eChishanu shrine in Budiriro 2 were involved in a violent confrontation with each other and riot police on Sunday.

This happened after Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe President Johannes Ndanga went to their gathering area to effect a ban on the sect over human rights abuse being perpetrated by the church authorities and leader identified as Madzibaba Ishamael.

According to The Zimbabwe Mail,  The abuses extend to denial of children’s access to education, fathers inspecting their daughters virginity and women not allowed to own mobile phones or watching television. Add to that the fact that married women who were not virgins at the time of getting married were being told to seek virgins for their husbands as compensation.

A Zimbabwe Broadcast Corporation TV cameraman Relaxe Mafurutu and ACCZ Harare provincial chairperson Lameck Chitope were injured in the scuffle.

Riot police who came into restore order were also beaten up and had to retreat. Cops received various degrees of injury and were sent for treatment.

Religion is weird. Very weird.

What is poignant on the horizon, is the police reaction to this.
