Mandela Stable After Surgery

Former South Africa president Nelson Mandela is in a stable after undergoing surgery. He had a long standing abdominal complaint which needed specialist attention, officials said.

93 yer-old Mandela’s health has been a cause for concern in the past few years and has caused him to miss numerous public appearances.

President Jacob Zuma’s office said the surgery was not something that had just cropped up and needed emergency attention.   It is also called for privacy to be accorded the family.
