Liz Opens Up On Troubled Tsvangirai Marriage

Elizabeth Macheka opened up about her troubled to MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

She was quoted in The Herald as saying that marriage had broken down due to ‘sensitive personal issues’ which she would no go into.

Tsvangirai and Liz have been married for about 16 months and have been separately for about a month. The separation was mutual.

She said:

Let it be known that it is every woman’s dream to be happily married in poverty and even in the midst of plenty. He knows the genesis of the problem, what steps he has been trying in vain to address the situation, including visits to TB Joshua and others. The paralysis between us has nothing to do with the outcome of the July 31, 2013 elections, MDC-T, any other political entity, foreign hand or material worth. The matter is both personal and circumstantial and only him and not even relatives, friends or party comrades can solve.

She also said she wasn’t particularly keen on his visits to TB Joshua.

The marriage was always a bit weird for outsiders given that Liz’s dad is Zanu-Pf stalwart Joseph Macheka. That close proximity to a party fiercely opposed to Tsvangirai also didn’t go well with people within the party.

The couple may have been in love but with those pressures around them it was always going to be really difficult. A relationship is hard enough when it has support but when it has the kind of forces outside it that this marriage had it’s chances of survival become a bit more difficult.

The way it started wasn’t ideal with the whole court cases and Locardia Karimatsenga issues and so forth would have been weird for any relationship.
