Liberia: All 25,000 Students Fail University Entrance Exam

The University of Liberia will this year have no first-year students after all 25,000 who sat for entrance exams failed.

The reasons given were that they ‘lacked enthusiasm’ and had a poor grasp of the English language.

Liberia has two state universities.  Noone passed to get into one of them.

Authorities acknowledge that the war years dented the education sector but 25,000 people failing is a bit much.  The government says that it will try and have a chat with the university to see if they could get some of the kids in but the institute intends to stand by its decision.

25,000 kids though. That is hectic on so many levels.

Feel thankful for small mercies. Peace means you get to develop certain things or at least have some level of structured system. Sure, political instability has upset our education system but we still manage to churn out some pretty bright kids.
