Former Bikita West legislator Munyaradzi Kereke has been granted ZW$500,000 bail pending an appeal against conviction and sentencing over rape of a 11-year-old relative.
The Supreme Court granted the application.
On 11 July 2016, Kereke was sentenced to 14 years in prison for raping a minor in 2010. Four those were suspended meaning he would serve an effective 10 years.
The case only came to be after the High Court directed then Prosecutor General Johannes Tomana to issue a private prosecution certificate to the family of the girl, against the former advisor to the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor Gideon Gono.
