Zimbabwe president Emmerson Mnangagwa has confirmed he is returning home ‘in light of the economic situation’.
On this Twitter account he said:
In light of the economic situation, I will be returning home after a highly productive week of bilateral trade and investment meetings. We will be ably represented in Davos by Minister of Finance, Mthuli Ncube. The first priority is to get Zimbabwe calm, stable and working again.
A crippling strike left some dead with widespread looting in parts of the country after the president announced a 143% increase in the price of fuel.
He joins list of presidents and prime ministers who have pulled out of the World Economic Forum due to troubles in their countries. These include US’s Donald Trump, France president Emmanuel Macron and Britain’s Theresa May.
