Former Soviet Union president Gorbachev dead – Russian media

Reports from Russian media are the former president of the Union of Soviet Social Republics (USSR) Mikhail Gorbachev has died.

Hospital officials have been cited as saying as much.

Gorbachev was credited for bringing an end to the Cold War without bloodshed but also oversaw the collapse of the USSR.

After the end of his rule as the country’s eighth and final president, he was consigned to political oblivion.

He was 91.
