Zimbabwe president Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed FBC Bank CEO Dr John Mushayavanhu as the new Governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ).

He replaces Dr John Mangudya, who is to lead the Mutapa Sovereign Wealth Fund.

Mangudya leaves after 10 years as Governor and was not eligible for a renewal when his term ends on 30 April 2024.

In another move, Mnangagwa has appointed Ambassador Albert Ranganai Chimbindi as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

He takes over from Ambassador James Manzou, who retires. Manzou becomes the new Chairperson of the Public Service Commission from 1 January 2024.

Manzou has been in government since 1980.
