The biggest scandal to rock the tiny country of Equatorial Guinea continues to gather pace.
Baltasar Ebang Engonga, Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency has been caught with over 300 sextapes in his possession.
So how did we get here?
Engonga is the chief of the fraud investigation unit. According to the Attorney General’s Office, he was raided last week and whilst investigators were looking for evidence related to fraud, they came across this material.
It was stored on numerous CDs.
In it the married father of six had sex in public places with wives of prominent people.
Among those reported include the president’s sister, wide of the Director of Presidential Security, the Attorney General’s wife, daughter of the Director of Police, wives of various ministers, his brother’s wife, his uncle’s pregnant wife and by some a cousin.
Most of the videos were consensual, but it is suspected that some of those which were recorded in his office weren’t.
Now, it is said he was not arrested for the consensual sex, but for the financial crimes as well as the bringing Equatorial Guinea into disrepute. This is when he had sex in his office and the videos showed the flag of the country during the act.
Sadly, it is being reported that at least one woman has since committed suicide after her sextape leaked.
Meanwhile, Vice President Teodora Nguema has said there will be investigations and suspensions of other officials. He said on X:
Today we will proceed with the immediate suspension of all officials who have had sexual relations in the offices of the country’s ministries. The Government will take severe measures against these acts, since it constitutes a flagrant violation of the Code of Conduct and the Public Ethics Law. This action is a decisive step in our policy of zero tolerance towards behaviors that undermine the integrity of the public service. Ethics and respect are fundamental in our administration, and we will not allow irresponsible behavior to compromise public trust. Responsibility and professionalism must be the pillars of our work as servants of the State.
