ED confirms he is safe after explosion, vows to carry on

President Emmerson Mnangagwa spoke to reporters after an explosion rocked his rally at White City Stadium.

Emmerson Mnangagwa addressing supporters PIC: Mzilikazi Wa Afrika on Twitter

He said:

I am more worried about you than myself

The explosion left some Zanu-Pf dignitaries including Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s wife Marry, VP Kembo Mohadi injured. The members of the ZBC crew were also hurt.

Mnangagwa also moved to absolve the people of Bulawayo. When asked by ZBC reporter Reuben Barwe if blamed them for the attack he said:

No. The people of Bulawayo? I love them and they love me.

There is widespread speculation the explosion was on the life of the president weeks before a general election set for 30 July 2018..

While we await further information, my thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this senseless act of violence.

While a Facebook post by Mnangagwa, merely called it an explosion, in the TV interview he said this had been the latest from his usual enemies:

The attempts have been so many.

Mnangagwa has vowed to carry on as usual.

The campaign so far has been conducted in a free and peaceful environment, and we will not allow this cowardly act to get in our way as we move towards elections.

Let us continue to be united and address our differences peacefully. The strongest response to violence is peace. The strongest response to hate is love.
