Current heavy rains not related to Chalane – Met Department

Zimbabwe’s Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has said there is no relation between Tropical Storm Chalane and the current heavy rains in the country.

In a statement, the MSD said that Chalane was currently far away (still east of Madagascar) and at present only a moderate tropical storm. it will make landfall in that country on 26 December 2020.

In Zimbabwe, there were thunderstorms on Christmas Eve, most notably Matobo District (65mm), Masvingo Town (44m), Zaka (32mm) and Nyanga (30mm).

Localised thunderstorms are expected through to Boxing Day.
