Covid-19 vaccination kicks of Thursday

Zimbabwe will start vaccinating its population for Covid-19 on Thursday 18 February 2020.

This is according to the government’s Deployment plan as well as confirmed by the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broacasting Services, Monica Mustvangwa.

200,000 doses of China’s Sinovac vaccine landed in the country on Monday and will in the first stage of phase one will be administered to health workers, security personnel, those working at borders, prisoners and correctional service workers. All shots are on a voluntary basis and free. They are to be taken two weeks apart.

The first batch came as a donation from China. The second batch of 600,000, which Zimbabwe has purchased will arrive in the first week of March. All in all, Zimbabwe will purchase 1.8 million doses from China.

In parliament today, the Minister of Health and Child Care who is also the Vice President of Zimbabwe Constantino Chiwenga said vaccines would be delivered every two weeks to ensure that deployment is not hindered.
