A Pakistani court has finally dropped attempted murder charges against a 9 month-old baby.
The court also launched a separate case against the police over how they charged Mohammed Musa after his family were involved in a clash with police over a gas bill. Inspector Kashif Muhammad, who was at the scene raised the charges against the baby. He has since been suspended.
The charges exposed flaws in the Pakistani judicial system where the minimum age of criminal responsibility is 12 years old.
The rest of the family still has charges against them. They accuse of thee police of colluding with a rival family to have them evicted off their land.
Local human rights activist Tariq Farooq said:
We don’t expect any good from the police, who often implicate the poor in false cases and then exploit and victimise them.
This was particular in the implication of Musa.
Th case inspired widespread ridicule across the world.
