CID member appears before court one extortion charges

A member of the Criminal Investigation (CID) Commercial Crimes Division is hot water.

Clever Daika (59) was arraigned before the Harare Magistrates Court facing charges of extortion.

Allegations are that on the 10th of March 2023, Daika accused Pamela Glenda of dealing in dangerous drugs.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Daika threatened to have her property seized by ZACC as he claimed that it was ill-gotten wealth that she had accumulated as proceeds of crime.

He is then said to have demanded a USD500 bribe from the complainant for him not to report the matter to ZACC.

Glenda reported the matter to the Police who set up a trap which led to the accused person’s arrest whilst he was still in possession of the money.

He was remanded in custody pending bail ruling on the 20 of March 2023.
