In a suspected grisly murder-suicide popular Harare businessman Irvine Mereki was apparently shot by his girlfriend before she turned the gun on herself, we’re hearing.
Details are still sketchy but the incident is said to have taken place in Avondale last night or the early hours of this morning.
From what we are hearing, she shot him the head before she shot herself, according to our source. Earlier information had suggested that he was the one who had shot his girlfriend and then himself. Further clarification has brought us to this latest position.
As we said, details are sketchy at the moment.
The girlfriend has been identified as Claris, an affable girl who ran a boutique in the CBD. She is said to have been about 30 years old.
Mereki is the son of the man behind the popular hangout in Warren Park. He was also formerly the chairman of Lengthens Football Club.
