Burundi President Pierre Nkurunziza dies

Burundi has announced the death of outgoing president Pierre Nkurunziza from a heart-attack.

The announcement was made by the government on its Twitter account said Nkurunziza had suffered a heart attack on 8 June 2020 and was at a hospital in Karusi.

Nkurinziza was 55. He had opted out of running for election this year after having ruled since 2005.

He was a military strongman who was accused of killings in his country.
