The ANC has hit back at claims by the ANC Youth Leaguertion that the removal of Julius Malema could not be done without the lower body.
ANCYL Deputy President Ronald Lamola had said earlier in the week that any decision to remove its embattled president could not be done without consultation with the structures of the organisation.
ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe said the ANCYL could not disobey the decision to suspend Malema.
“Once a decision is taken by a higher organ, it is binding on all lower organs, whether you think it is stupid or uninformed, it is a decision and it cannot be refused,” Mantashe added.
Meanwhile the Malema and two other executives’ mitigation hearing ended this past Thursday. The ANC’s Disciplinary Committee had also said the party would argue for harsher sentencing for Malema and company.
Malema was suspended for five years for bringing the ANC into disrepute and sowing division in the party
