Aircraft carrying Malawi Vice President goes missing

A Malawi Defense Force Aircraft carrying the Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima has gone missing, the Office of the President and Cabinet has announced.

It left Lilongwe on Monday at 09.17hrs and was meant to land at Mzuzu International Airport at 10.02hrs.

“All efforts by aviation authorities to make contact with the Aircraft since it went off the radar have failed thus far,” the statement added.

The Commander of the Malawi Defence Forces General Valentino Phiri has informed President Lazarus Chakwera, who has since cancelled his scheduled departure for the Bahamas.

He has further ordered all regional and national agencies to conduct an immediate search and rescue operation to locate the whereabouts of the aircraft.
