21 February declared public holiday

The birthday of Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe which falls on 21 February has been declared a national holiday.

The announcement was made by Home Affairs Minister Dr Ignatius Chombo at a press conference in Harare.

The day has been observed before by the 21st February Movement, established in 1986.

The day will be called Robert Gabriel Mugabe National Youth Day.

The day creates a break from a four month period with no holidays from January to April.

Oh and it also celebrates the birthday of the republic’s first executive president.
