The Zimbabwe government has announce that it will extend Covid-19 vaccination to children as young as 15 years old.
In a statement in a Post Cabinet media briefing, it said, “In view of the science-based guidance from the Paediatric Association of Zimbabwe special COVID-19 vaccine group, Cabinet resolved that COVID-19 vaccination be extended to the 12-15 years old age group.”
The efficacy seems not to be a problem given that China is vaccinating children as young as three years old. Zimbabwe for the most uses China’s Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines.
When the rollout for Zimbabwe’s vaccination of the new group will be is not clear.
To date, a total of 4,337,829 people have had at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine. It is a far cry from the targeted 10 million fully vaccinated by the end of December 2021.
