Why guys should not drink after exercise… erm

So you like to have a bit of a drink after exercise.

BeerKinda makes sense when you think of it. Almost like a reward for the great workout.

Well it is a bad and pretty much terrible idea according to the Journal of Strength and Conditioning. Research showed reduced levels of the chemical signals that spur muscle growth for men who did than those who didn’t.

Said study co-author Jakob Vingren, a biology and kinesiology professor at the University of North Texas in Denton:

A little bit of alcohol is probably not a problem. But if you’re doing heavy resistance training, if you’re going to go out drinking that night, don’t go to the gym right before. It’s possible the next day you’re going to be worse off than if you hadn’t gone to the gym.

It does feel odd. Because after a game of cricket or squash you want to have that beer.  It just works like that. Scientists don’t really know the link between certain sports and drinking but it is there.

Just because the geeks say it is not healthy, doesn’t make it suck less.
