We want to ensure every African country has access to the Covid-19 vaccine – WHO

As the world accelerates the development of a Covid-19 vaccine, the worry has been that African countries will be among those left behind.

First world countries like the UK, US and Australia have already ordered vaccines in advance even as they are development.

Speaking at the 70th Session of the World Health Organisation Regional Committee for Africa, WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom said:

And through the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator and the COVAX Global Vaccines Facility, we’re working to ensure that if and when a vaccine is proven to be safe and effective, it will be accessible equitably for all countries

Equitable is a good way to start because with different economic powers across the continent, the fear is also that the bigger boys might get the best bits for themselves.
