No lockdown in Kwekwe – Govt

The Zimbabwe government has dismissed reports that the city of Kwekwe will be going under lockdown due to the variant of Covid-19 commonly found in India.

Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Larry Mavima, is quoted in The Chronicle, as calling the reports of such a measure as fake.

“That is a fake social media speculation and people should ignore it. That’s not true,” Mavhima said.

There had been panic, even in areas outside Kwekwe, with fears that a dreaded hard lockdown would be enforced in the country.

Zimbabwe this week, confirmed that the B.1 617 variant was now in the country.
