The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said the latest Covid-19 variant is of low risk.
WHO says based on the available evidence, the additional global public health risk posed by JN.1 is currently evaluated as low.
It says it is classifying the variant JN.1 as a separate variant of interest (VOI) from the parent lineage BA.2.86.
Current vaccines will continue to protect against severe disease and death from JN.1 and other circulating variants of SARS-COV-2.
This is what WHO said, ” Current vaccines, including those based on ancestral strain as well as the updated monovalent XBB vaccines continue to provide protection against severe disease and death, including against JN.1.”
