If you’re tossing and turning and night and failing to sleep a study has found a reason. Plus the solution is very simple.
No Facebook or Twitter scrolling, flipping through WhatsApp statuses, random YouTube viewing or sleeping with the TV on from 10pm if you want to have a decent night’s sleep especially if you have some mental health issues.
The study, published in The Lancet Psychiatry, found people who do so are more likely to suffer from mood problems and rate themselves as less happy than those who switch off entirely in the hours leading up to bedtime.
The authors examined the circadian rhythms of 91,000 middle-aged people.
The study found that people who carried their phone to bed were likely to experience more fluctuation in their mood, as well as depression or bipolar disorder.
So a simple thing would be to leave your phone in another room charging until the morning. Some phones have a Do Not Disturb function which you can set for certain periods.
And they also add that be restful before you go to sleep. But be more active during the day.
