Government targets 50,000 Covid-19 vaccinations per day

Zimbabwe’s government is about to go on a large scale Covid-19 vaccination exercise.

With the expected two million vaccines set to land this week from China, the ambitious drive is to have 50,000 people getting a dose per day. That would mean 350,000 per week.

The new consignment of vaccines, which arrives in Harare on Thursday, will be immediately deployed systematically to immunisation centres countrywide targeting areas where infections have been rising, according ZBCNews.

“We will embark on a blitz to vaccinate more people over the next few weeks,” said Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr John Mangwiro told The Sunday Mail.

“We have already started distributing part of the recent consignment that was delivered last week to hotspot areas around the country so that everyone is vaccinated,” he added.

791,901 people had gotten their first dosage with 567,686 of them takne the second one by 3 July 2021.

Zimbabwe says it is targeting 10 million fully vaccinated adults by end of the year.

Initially, the process had little uptake, but recently, the demand has gone up.
