Fertility app could soon replace the pill…

You know when they said there will be an app for everything they were super serious.

Many women are now using a tracking app to ensure they do not end up with unwanted pregnancies.

Natural Cycles is an app where a woman is in her cycle according to her body temperature readings. Users record these and based on this the app calculates her ‘red days’ (when she is likely to get pregnant and must either abstain from sex or use protection) or her ‘green days’ (when she has no risk of getting pregnant).

Essentially it is like the rhythm method, but with an app.

Researchers from Karolinska Institute in Sweden say the app is as effective as the pill without side-effects like weight gain, mood swings and the works.

It is a brave new world. It costs about $85 a year and about 10,000 women are already using it.

Shows how we can use technology to bring convenience to old solutions.
