Beer loves huddle up.
A new study from Japan says a glass of beer per day could improve concentration and reduce the risks of dementia.
Who knew eh?
And of course, they just explained the reason we drink beer. No, not the taste. It reduces stress and improves mood.
Yay!
So back to the concentration and dementia thing.
Scientists based at Juntendo University Faculty of Medicine and the Fukushima Healthcare Center carried out the research on 100 otherwise healthy people aged 45 to 69 who had demonstrated Selective Cognitive Decline (SCD), defined as ‘worsening memory loss’.
Part of the group was given placebos while the other was given a daily dose of an acid found in bitter hops, and known as MHBA.
After 12 weeks there were a series of tests taken and blood and saliva samples were taken.
It was found that MHBA supplementation improved mental processing speed, attention, and concentration and reduced mental stress after intellectual work in healthy adults aged 45 to 69 years with Selective Cognitive Decline.
And even more. They found that the MHBA resulted in improved energy metabolism in overweight subjects, meaning they lost weight.
The study is in the latest edition of Alzheimer’s Disease
Another study in the US suggested drinking 12 alcoholic drinks a week to slow the reduction in cognitive function, 13 for mental status, ten for word recall and 14 for vocabulary.
Oh beer, we love you.
