According to a study from the Department of Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre in Boston, Massachusetts, holding in a poo can negatively impact your mental wellbeing.

The study was looking at the correlation between chronic diarrhoea, constipation, and depression in individuals.

Can we say that this is an odd thing to study but we are good about it anyway?

Lead author Sarah Ballou said it was found that those who did not move their bowels often had poor mental health.

And the explanation is simple. The happy hormone, serotonin, originates in the gut. In essence, if your gut is happy, you’ll be happy too.
