China starts deploying anal swab for Covid-19 tests

China has rolled a way to screen people for Covid-19.

Now they are using anal swabs which they say is more accurate than the throat method.

In this test, a saline-soaked cotton swab is inserted three to five centimetres into the anus. It is then tested for active traces of Covid-19.

China says that traces of Covid-19 found in the anus can last longer than in the respiratory tract.

Zhang Wenhong of Huashan Hospital in Shanghai, told Global Times that such swabs could be useful in helping minimise the risk of a relapse after recovery.

Would you take an anal swab?
