We’ve Just Turned 7!

At 7.29pm on the 21st of February 2008 our first words in anger were written out and posted to the world.

Back then we were on a blogspot free page and it was an exciting time. The idea was to have conversations even though what would happen later would not be anything close to what we would experience in the years to follow.

It was the writing that was fun. Going into a world that was reading less and looking at pictures more we were always told that this would be a dying art.

Noone was doing it really at the time in Zimbabwe so it felt strange making such a commitment. There was noone to look to for guidance and we certainly did not want any from the mainstream. Not because we hated the mainstream but because the platform was meant to be conversational and un-newspaper-like as possible. It was conversations we wanted everyone to be part of, with or without opinion.

The idea evolved from random bursts of inspiration to defined sound and spaces, still a bunch of noise but much like a jazz set, a conversation between words, words talking to each other.

We got into trouble a few times, in fact a lot of times, but we it was important to be honest with the world and with ourselves.

Now at 7 we feel stroppy, sometimes mischievous but the expectation is no longer the same. When you are toddling about everyone thinks you are cute and that whatever weird things you do are appropriate.

As you grow older you take on more responsibility and that is what is exciting.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be introducing new products and making some, well, changes to improve your experience with us. (bear with us through this). All this is geared to making your read more and have more conversations. This means new spaces that will allows us to tell your story and that is where the real excitement. Every Zimbabwean story deserves to be told and to be told it must be. It must be written and read.

A human 7 year-old is confused at times and is often cheeky. A 7 year-old brand might not admit to the same but the sentiments will be similar.

As we go forward we will continue to give you an honest unadulterated view of the world. Not all our content will be loved but it will be from a place of honesty. Malice is not a good look.

That’s the only way to build a form that lives beyond us all. And we want to live forever.

Thank you for your support.

PS: Instead of partying, we work.
