We’ve just turned 13!

On this day thirteen years ago, we published our very first article.

And what a journey it has been. To say it has been fascinating is an understatement.

But I am going to talk about the last year.

Because we have started making a move towards becoming a information and lifestyle brand ahead of simply being about news, we have started adjusting a few things.

It is not simple as it sounds as we have been seen primarily as a news space. It takes a huge leap of faith to adjust thinking and remodel how and what content we create. It remodels what we give you based on who you are and also adjusting your behaviour to new innovations. We have been fortunate that so far, the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive.

First our website needed a new look. The look which had served us exceedingly well for five years was sufficient. But sufficient is not enough. If we are going to scale up it means that we needed something more fluid, faster and with more possibilities. It mans scalability.

So we have gotten a new look and it will keep adding new features over the next couple of months as we go.

We then started expanding our product offering and the first major one was #3mobRadioPresents. And with that came the two podcast drama series, Ende Futi and Ribro Banda Lebo Shanda. The third one, Chema, will be released first week of March. These are originally scripted Zimbabwean fiction series in real world historical settings.

What I particularly enjoyed about this particular project is the collaborative work with some talented local creatives.

As we add new things to our catalogue, we started introducing more video content through our #3mobTV arm. Our focus is on content for YouTube and with this new focus we experienced a 40% increase in our subscriptions and 312% increase in YouTube views, month on month.

We will continue to increase video content, within the mandate of our information and lifestyle brand.

Our job is to make content that makes you think, fits into your life, important and all that. Fundamentally, it has to engage. It has to matter.

There are other products we have in the works, much of it at scale.

Today, though, we celebrate the teenage dirtbag we are becoming.

And we intend to have a lot of fun.
