VIEW FROM THE VERANDAH: Summer and Love in poetry

Words that hopefully make your insides tingle. Poems about what we all dream about on a good day.

Like Red Lipstick

Yellow, pink, orange, blue, purple
Colours of summer
Strewn like confetti
No rain, lightning, or thunder
Yet here, there, and over there
A rainbow

A midsummer’s day
Begging to be compared to thee
Sonnet No. 18
Though I could live in this moment forever
I need not tell you
Thou art more lovely and more temperate

Roses, Petunias, Violas
As curtain raisers
Dance a beautiful rhythm
As if in obedient response
To the Pied Piper

Is it summer
Or shall we call it
Jacaranda season

Purple is the new red

Alone with a Stranger

I should be scared
Or at the very least
Have a decent amount
Of a sense of self preservation

Deep in the woods
He leads me
To places unknown
I’m not afraid

We’re alone
No-one knows
Where I am
Or whom I’m with

I’m at his mercy
He knows it
I do too
I’m definitely crazy

Unsaid Words

If I were to text, call, or write a letter
What would I say
How do I put into words
What my soul longs to express

Would I hit send, push dial, or post
Can my illegible thoughts
Be transformed
Into readable sentences

How can I make clear
What I myself
Am failing
To decipher

My emotions are everywhere
All of a sudden
My brain no longer knows
How to define chemical reactions

Lost at sea
