Tips from an experience at the Zimbabwe passport office

NB: This was and has been my personal experience there.It does not disregard in any way other experiences.

My inbox is flooding with this errand request.Here is my truthful experience at the passport office so far.Please note: this has been my personal experience so far..if you have links that have given you passport in an hour I will not write about a possibility i have not experienced or if you have been told never to come back as soon as you got there I will not say it’s closed.This has been my experience.

Passport gazzeted cost ( rtgs/bond…nb:swipe or cash only)
$318- same day (24-48hrs high emergency)
$253 – 7 days
$53 – 9 months +/-

The first are emergency passports but you only get them with supportive documents.Depending on their understanding of your emergency you are either attended to or given date to come back and apply for the emergency passport.( here you may even be given following year date).If you where offered a job support your need with documents..if you are migrating support with documents.If you need to be treated …support with documents.If you work abroad proof of employment plus work permit and or accomodation proof. Replacing old passport , the old passport should be there.

The rest $53 normal passport that comes out 9months +/-

You can topup a passport that was paid for $53 but with application why you need it to come out now and supporting documents.after you apply for top up you are given date to come and top up.

Advice
Your best bet is to have a convincing application for an emergency passport and aunthentic documents to support. If you stay in the diaspora go via Zim Embassy in the country you are staying convince them to explain to the registrar why you need a passport.

Don’t just take heresay and believe because people are saying there is no paper I won’t try..You never know…you should push your luck.Each day 20 at least are being printed if they are convincing enough.

Shortcuts
Errand Girl is honest. Sometimes compassionate people at the passport office may help and may be said to want money but make sure you have a direct link there.Third parties will make money out of you and you will still not get anything.

Tracking when a passport that was applied for will come out.
The receipt is what’s needed of when application was handed in.Without this receipt it is not possible to check whether the passport is now available or not.

Collection of passport on someone’s behalf and send via DHL
This is possible if passport is now ready for collection. But we need someone with same surname as yours, letter of authorisation to collect, receipt and copy of your id.

Lastly, the earliest bird catches the fattest worm. If you really have a great need get up very early, be at the passport office by 5am so you get a number and you may see assistant registrar to plead your case.
