Poet, Digipreneur, Aurra is now the Acting Head of a whole school and we chat to her about it

Aurra Kawanzaruwa is a woman who makes moves.

From performing on stage as a poet to featuring on iconic rap and EDM albums. Aurra also pushes the Little Entrepreneurs initiative and add to that running the AfriDigital platform.

Well, there is something to add because she has just accepted the position of Acting Head at St Anne’s School.

We caught up with newly minted Aurra Kawanzaruwa, Acting Head and asked her few questions to understand.

  1. A poet, a digipreneur and now a school… Is this adventure or figuring yourself out?
It’s purpose. As much as I wear many hats, they all compliment each other. My life motto is “Learn, Teach, Win, Repeat”. Education in all its forms governs the work I choose to do.
  2. We saw in the last few years, you have taken a keen interest in little entrepreneurs. How will this help?
As you may know, I do a lot of “future work”. The data gathered from Little Entrepreneurs shows that children are capable of broader thought than we give them credit for. Entrepreneurship is a great tool to develop problem-solving skills, design thinking, negotiation, teamwork & of course financial literacy, to list a few. I think this is valuable for a school to adopt especially considering the fact that, as a nation, we need to develop more leaders and creators that will design the future job market and workforce.
  3. What is the biggest challenge you see yourself facing and how do you plan to overcome it?
The biggest challenge I see myself facing is trying to foster growth and change in such a difficult economic environment. This will require a close working relationship with partners, teachers and parents alike to strike a balance that allows us to grow but not breaking the bank while we’re at it.
  4. What do you hope the legacy you build in running a school will be?
St. Anne’s School, which was established in 1947, already has such a powerful legacy of excellence and producing well-rounded learners who excel wherever they go. I hope to add a youthful and future-conscious perspective to teaching and learning, equipping students with the necessary skills they need to thrive in the future of work.

Anne’s Children Centre was founded in 1947 by a Portuguese migrant to then Rhodesia. Mrs. Erasmus saw the need for an individualised, biblically-based education for children. The center started in their home and has now expanded to include both a preschool and primary school in the quiet neighborhood of Meyrick Park.

We are well excited for Aurra. Make moves…
